So, since people have asked to see pictures of Rosy, I figured I should probably post some. Maybe people will stop thinking that she’s made up and everything is just a big ruse. ![]() This is my first day in Puebla, when I was here in March. We're at a market downtown. This also happens to be my favorite photo of Rosy. ![]() Here, we're in a taxi, on our way to somewhere.... Can't remember where. Love the guy in the gas truck with a WTF look on his face! And, no, that's not one of the trucks from the 'El Gas' post, it's a bigger, more official gas truck. Here in Mexico, or at least in Puebla, there are trucks that play music as they drive around neighbourhoods trying to get your attention so that you’ll come out and buy what they’re selling. Sound familiar? Yeah, they’re kinda like ice cream trucks, except they sell… gas. Gas to heat your water and run your stove. They distinguish the different companies by the music that they play. When, I was staying at Rosy’s Mom’s place, I noticed 3 different companies. One of them I only hear once, but the other ones would come around frequently, at random times throughout the day. They play their music for a bit, and intermittently, the music is interrupted with “El Gaaaaaaassssssssssss!!!” and some other Spanish, probably talking about how awesome their gas is. Unfortunately, every time they came by, I would be in the bathroom, or eating, or not know where my camera was, or my camera batteries would be dead, or they’d be gone by the time I got to the window. I was finally able to get one on the day I left, but, unfortunately, I didn’t have much room on my memory card, so, it’s pretty short. Thankfully, it’s my favourite one. You might even recognize the music. They don’t venture out into my new neighbourhood. I kinda miss them – though I don’t miss being woken up by them as they drive by the window. The other day, Rosy took me to a going away party for a friend of hers, in Cholula – Puebla’s Burnaby. Okay, not really Puebla’s Burnaby… It’s only Puebla’s Burnaby because it’s right next door. Other than that, it’s totally different – I mean, it’s got its own ancient pyramid. And 365 churches. However, like Burnaby, it’s got a big university. But, unlike Burnaby, this university means that Cholula is filled with all sorts of restaurants, bars, and clubs. Tons of them. Well, the going away party was at a place called Siete Santos – Seven Saints – and, the music was terrible, and so were the wall murals. Now, I’m sure your asking, why is he telling us about this horrible place? Well, it wasn’t so much the place, as it was the locale. It was in an area in Cholula, a block off the main strip, called Container City. And, it’s exactly how it sounds. The whole place was filled with shops, restaurants, and bars that are in containers – you know, shipping containers, those things that are on ships, and shipyards all around the world, filled with toys, computers, drugs, and people. I’ve seen all sorts of articles and pictures of organizations using shipping containers for alternate uses, such as housing. But, I’d never actually seen anything in person – other than one thing at a design show, but that was just for show, not actual use. It was amazing. Picture a small mall, made entirely of shipping containers, stacked in non-container fashion. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my camera with me, but, I’ll definitely be going back to take pictures and, once I do, I’ll share with you. UPDATE: Here’s Container City Okay, just so you don’t get thinking about something that isn’t – no, I’m not engaged. But, on Saturday, I did go to an engagement. Read that again. An engagement. Not an engagement party. An engagement – though, it did turn into an engagement. If anybody wants any ideas about how to pop the question, read on. On Saturday, Rosy got a call from a friend. He invited us to be there when he asked his ex-girlfriend to marry him. Yep, that’s right – ex-girlfriend. You see, earlier that morning, he broke up with his pregnant girlfriend. He also got her best friends, who were coming in from out-of-town, to call her and say they couldn’t make it into town. Then, he called a bunch of his friends and asked them to meet at a live music bar – which is a mix of cover songs by the singer of the band, and karaoke, where people come up and sing with her. We all waited at the back door of the bar until everyone got there, and, more importantly, until he got up the nerve. Then, once he was ready, he was given the microphone, and the music changed, and he entered the bar singing “their” song. And, he went up to the woman whose heart he broke hours ago and continued singing to her. She beamed. And then, once the song was done, they hugged, and he got the ring from his friend, while his girlfriend wasn’t paying attention, and proposed to her, in front of 30 of their friends, and everyone else in the bar. Obviously, it was all a set up, but, the whole day, I kept asking Rosy, what if she doesn’t show. How can he guarantee that she’ll be there. I mean, it’s the worst day of her life. The love of her life just broke up with her 3 months before they’re having a baby. She said yes, and all was forgiven. A zillion people have asked me to send pictures of my new home. And, I keep saying, “Yep, will do.” Well, now I do! Okay, so, only kind of. I’ll be doing it in parts, ’cause I’m lazy. But, now that I’ve converted this site into a blog, I can at least start. And, if you keep your eyes on the site, there will be more as time passes – and as I actually take pictures of the rest of the house. Sorry, but, you’ll just have to make due with what is here so far. ![]() This is the gate that keeps everyone outside of the area of our house. Please also note all the wires that bring us power and all sorts of other fun things. ![]() And, this is what you see if you open the gate and walk down a bit. At the end of this Privada, beside that car that's exiting, there is also another gate guarded by a man in uniform who will take your ID if you try to enter. ![]() Rosy shows everyone where we put our garbage for pick up. And, no, that's not our garbage – the spot is shared by a bunch of people. Note La Panza. ![]() If you go back and look at the first picture, then turn 90 degrees to the right, this is what you'll see – our Fraccioniamente (I'm sure I've spelled it wrong). There's about 7 or 8 houses here. Ours is the brown one on the left. ![]() And, this is where we would park our car, if we had one. But we don't. So, usually it's empty. But, sometimes Rosy's Mom's car is there. Also here, behind Rosy, is the entrance to the house. ![]() We have a back yard! This is the side gate entrance to the back yard. Sorry, you'll have to wait until another time to see the back yard. ![]() And, here is that entrance that I mentioned. Ooooh, if you look far enough, you can see a peak of the back yard, through the living room. I'm hoping to play checkers on my tiled floor someday. ![]() This is el baño on the main floor. In the last picture, you can sort of see the entrance to it, on the right. Yep, it's maroon coloured, or in Spanish, vino. ![]() Here's the kitchen! It's directly opposite of the bathroom. Note the fridge - more on that in a moment - and the dining room on the right.
![]() This is that fridge - refri - that I was talking about a while ago. Apparently, fridges aren't included in rented places. I totally assumed they were, and, thus, was quite surprised when I had to find a fridge. Found one relatively quickly at a good price, but, when Rosy and I went to measure the space, it was 2 cms too big! This resulted in a significant amount of time looking for a fridge that wasn't knee-high to a grasshopper. We eventually found one - this is it!! ![]() This is the rest of the kitchen. The stove has 6 elements! The search for the Porta Garrafon - the thing the water is sitting on - was almost as epic as the search for the fridge... almost. ![]() Through the kitchen window, you can see the servant's quarter's. You might be lucky enough to stay in there some day - there's even room enough in there for a small bed. ![]() Yep, we can see Volcanoes from our home! It's hiding behind the water tank on top of that house there. Well, that’s it for now. More pictures to come another time. So, I’ve moved to Mexico, and I’ve been here for about 3 weeks now. And, many people have been asking for a lot of the same sorts of things – especially pictures of my new home. So, I figured I would revamp this extremely unused and out-of-date [it was previously a portfolio that was probably at least 6 years out of day] domain as a blog of sorts – don’t ask me why I added “of sorts” ’cause, really, it is a blog. I’ll be posting pictures – of my previously mentioned new home among other things – and, just probably randomly writing about things of all sorts, but, I imagine, mostly of life in Mexico. |
