I decides to go out and do a couple of errands - pay the cable bill, get some groceries. As I was in the last store, getting ready to go back home, it started to rain. And, not just a little. A lot! I decided to wait it out. Rain turned to hail the size of Chick Peas. I waited. After about 15 minutes, I decided to make a break for it, ’cause it’s obviously not going to let up, like it usually does. By the time I got under the awning across the street, I was completely soaked. And, that’s where I am now… The pictures below show my view…

Mexican Design

For a while, I’ve been wanting to start posting about design here in Mexico. On the whole, the design here is completely terrible. There are a few good designs – logos, signage – but those are usually for large organizations. You can pretty much count on anything designed for a small company, will be bad. I often find myself in situations where I am looking at something and I have no idea what it’s for.

So, my first in a series…

Okay, when I saw this in a local mall, I had no idea what this was for. And, now that I’ve had to look at it more closely, I still don’t know what’s going on. The hierarchy is totally screwed up – the most prominent information are the dates – so, I know when it’s happening. And, beside the dates are the giant logos, and, because I saw this at Triangulo, a mall, I can deduce that those are the locations, which is also supported by the extremely tiny text, which I can see by squinting, indicating the address for two of the locations.

But still, what’s going on? Is this girl at these locations? Is she famous? Will Cats, the musical, be performed? Is she in Cats?

Or, are people just going to get together and scribble pink lines on pictures?

Please, designers, come to Mexico and save their designs from people who learned how to design using Microsoft Word.

Please.

Adult Purchase

You may have seen the overgrown yard in my earlier post. One benefit of living in an apartment, or in a suite within a house, for the last 15 years, or more, is that I haven’t had to deal with overgrown yards. This resulted in the need to purchase something to handle the rapidly – thanks to much rain here – growing lawn. An Adult Purchase. Not a TV, or a computer, or something fun. A lawn mower.

The yard isn’t very big – there’s some tight corners – so I wanted something agile. And, of course, if possible, I didn’t want something that would require gas, or electricity – gotta keep my footprint as small as possible, which can be difficult in a country that doesn’t recycle too well.

So, I bought this…

At least I got the joy of putting it together.

And now, this bad boy helps me beat back the lawn.

I wouldn’t be lying…

Ades – Soy Juice

I’m often surprised by the number of soya products that they have in Mexico – especially considering how carme–centric everythings seems to be. While shopping in the local Super, looking at the juice, I saw a number of soya juices. I hadn’t seen anything of the sort before – either we don’t have this in Canada, or I’m blind – I could very well accept the second option. Rosy said that lots of people drink it and it’s supposed to be good. So, I picked one – Uva, which is grape – and decided to give it a try.

The next day for breakfast, I decided to give it a shot. I opened it and poured it into a glass – it looked like a mix of grape juice and soya milk… And… that’s really what it tasted like.

I haven’t touched it since.

Pictures of the New Casa… Okay, well, the yard

I’ve shown you pictures of the house – okay, not all of it, but I did show you the first floor. Now, it’s time for the yard.

Way back in the first post of pictures of the house, I showed you a peak into the yard, through the gate. This is just on the other side of the gate.

And, just beyond the last pick and to the left, is the roof access ladder – where the gas and water tanks are stored.

And, just around the corner is the window to the living room.

And, if you look back, you see some trees!

And, around the other corner is the back yard!

And, turn around again – that's what you see.

As you may have seen a couple of pictures ago, the yard is getting a little wild and overgrown. That's what happens when they put vines and prickle bushes in the back yard of a house in an area that gets lots of rain. This was taken about 3 weeks after moving in.

And, if you look up, you get to really see how wild the back yard gets!

Weather Poblano

A lot of people keep asking what the weather is like here in Puebla. Right now, it’s not all that hot, it’s sunny and, generally it rains – even pours – most evenings.

I looked up the climate on weather2travel.com, and it seems to be pretty static throughout the year:

As, you can see the average highs are as high as 27, and as low as a frigid 22 degrees. And the lows are between 6 and 13. And, right now, it’s rainy season, and it should be pretty much that way until October!

My First Mobile Post

This is where I am right now. It’s a water park in Atlixco, about 20 minutes outside of Puebla. I can’t remember the name of the place, but they have a strange cartoon aligaror for a mascot.

It’s cloudy enough that there’s barely anybody here, but warm enough that it’s comfortable for a Canadian.

UPDATE @ 16:48: I’m still here, but now I’ve got more pics, including one of the alligator. And, the pool has stools by the bar - unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it’s been in use in years. And, the place is called Ayoa.

In my last post, I totally forgot to mention that the whole reason I ran across the I Love Alaska series earlier this year was because of another film that Sander Plug and Lernert Engelberts directed, Chocolade Haas. And, here it is:
